02: Saving

That's what we're here to figure out for you! While you can decide if you only want one or the other, I HIGHLY recommend saving to both an external AND cloud-based back up system. You're covered no matter what! The goal of the SAVING module is to get the photos you've decided to keep organized and in one place (or ideally two places). Module two of our program is ALL about getting those photos off your phone and ready for safe keeping. We don't want to rush it though, and just dump them all in place. I prefer saving by month - the OCD in me LOVES a good chronological order.

What's Your game plan?

Decide what you want to call each of your month's albums. I highly recommend labeling by date first - it makes it much easier to find on your computer since the album titles will already be in chronological order.

For example, my 2019 photos are labeled just like the example below. When we move to an external hard drive through your computer, it will keep the folders in order, but still make it easy for you find what you're looking for:
2019 1 January
2019 2 February
2019 3 March

DEVELOP A NAMING SYSTEM

Head to your "Favorites" folder and scroll until you've found the months you've curated so far. We're going to make an iPhone album per month.

Scroll through so you can remember what the first and last picture of the month looked like, so you can quickly select the entire month. Find your first photo of the month you're making an album for, click select, and touch and hold the first photo. Then drag your finger down to the last photo for the month.

Once you're finished selecting, click the "share" (the button you'd click to send a photo to someone) and scroll to "Add to Album". Select "New Album" and label it for your month!

Create your Monthly albums

Now, repeat for all the months you have culled. If you're skipping ahead to here, and have only curated part of your year, that's fine! Just remember to do this for every month of your target year. It's so satisfying to see your albums all lined up next to each other!

ORGANIZATION IS KEY!

Once your photos are all in organized albums on your phone, remember those albums will automatically sync to iCloud. You can head to your computer, and download the photos from each album onto your desktop or external hard drive from there.

Head to your iCloud

Downloading each album at a time is a great way to keep them in order, but also not download too many at a time. You can keep your hard drive organized with albums by month, or whatever works best for you. This way, they are in chronological order and make your memories much easier to find.
